Monday, January 25 FOSTERING HOPE: TRAUMA FOCUS-COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (TF-CBT) WITH YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE Shannon Dorsey, Elizabeth Feldman Early findings from feasibility study examining TF-CBT and specialized engagement strategies with youth in foster care and their caregivers.
Two recent randomized controlled treatment trials of TF-CBT. One evaluated the relative benefit of including different TF- CBT components and lengths of treatment for young (4-11 year old), multiple-traumatized, sexually abused children. The second evaluated the relative benefit of TF-CBT and Child Centered Therapy (CCT) for children and their mothers who had experienced domestic violence.

Tuesday, January 26 WHAT IS AN EVIDENCE BASE FOR SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME (SBS) PREVENTION? RANDOMIZED TRIALS AND THE PERIOD OF PURPLE CRYING Marilyn Barr, Ronald Barr A report on the recently published two randomized controlled trials of the Period of PURPLE Crying education materials for preventing shaken baby syndrome (abusive head trauma). These are the first SBS prevention materials to have undergone this level of testing.

THERAPISTS CHARACTERISTICS RELATED TO SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION OF AND SUSTAINED USE OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE STANDARDS (EBPS) Monica Fitzgerald, Jason Lang Characteristics of therapists who are more or less likely to adopt EBPS will be identified based on data from over 100 therapists in two statewide disseminations of TF-CBT.
QUICK, CHEAP, EASY AND GOOD: FACILITATING THE USE OF DATA IN EBPS Robert Franks, Jason Lang Strategies for training therapists to use data for improving practice will be discussed, including how to structure an efficient and cost-effective data management system.
SUSTAINABILITY OF A STATEWIDE TF-CBT DISSEMINATION USING THE LC: WHAT HAPPENS 2 YEARS LATER? VICTIMIZATION IN CHILDHOOD 1995-2005: RESULTS FROM THE NATIONAL SURVEY OF ADOLESCENTS AND THE NATIONAL SURVEY OF ADOLESCENTS REPLICATION Benjamin Saunders Self-reported childhood victimization rates and characteristics for sexual assault, physical assault, physical abuse, and witnessing violence among nationally representative samples of 17 year olds living in households in the U.S. in 1995 and 2005 will be compared. Changes in prevalence, victim characteristics, and incident characteristics will be discussed.

Thursday, January 28 KEY FINDINGS FROM THE FOURTH NATIONAL INCIDENCE STUDY OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT (NIS-4) - Andrea Sedlak Key findings of the 2009 NIS. Based on a sentinel methodology, the NIS goes beyond the children who come to the attention of child protective services. Also, obtaining information from community professionals to submit data on maltreated children they encounter in the course of their work in hospitals, public health, law enforcement, schools, day care centers, shelters, mental health agencies, and voluntary social service agencies.
RISK AND PROTECTIVE FACTORS FOR THE SCHOOL OUTCOMES OF MALTREATED YOUTH - Tia McGill, Shannon Self-Brown Findings from multi-informant data (self, parent, and teacher) collected at a child advocacy center to examine the school outcomes of maltreated youth.
EXPOSURE TO POLITICAL VIOLENCE AND ITS EFFECT ON PSYCHOSOCIAL AND FAMILY FUNCTIONING: PTSD AND AGGRESSION AMONG PALESTINIAN ADOLESCENT - Alean Al-Krenawi This study examines the Impact of Political Violence on Psychosocial and Family Functioning, PTSD and Aggression on adolescences from Gaza Strip and West Bank. The finding shows that political violence predicts difficulties in family function. Furthermore, it is evidence that the socio-economic status reduces significantly mental health symptoms, family function, social function, hostility and PTSD.
